Summer Trip to Indian Falls Trail
Eureka! We found it! Last time we attempted to find Indian Falls we failed-ended up on the edge of someone’s woods. Rule #1 Just goes to show you can’t always trust Google directions. Seems like we had the same problem when we first tried to find Crystal Falls It’s actually not that hard. From Hwy 101 take Exit 13 to Route 12, head to New Ross. Turn right onto the Forties Road at New Ross and then turn left at Franey’s Corner (about 17 km) toward Parkdale and Maplewood. Indian Fall’s Park is about 18 km from Franey Corner, just a bit past LaHave River Campground. If you are coming from…

Exploring the Coastline with East Coast Outfitters
Kayaking is one of my favorite things to do, and I do as much as I can-mostly lakes and rivers. My opportunity to experience kayaking in the Atlantic came with a trip to East Coast Outfitters in Lower Prospect. It was my opportunity because I grabbed a deal off Groupon. Was it worth it? Most assuredly so. East Coast Outfitters staff were helpful and our guide was knowledgeable-we learned so much about the area’s history and geography. All guides are certified by Paddle Canada and trained in Wilderness First Aid. We received a short course of instruction in the fine art of sea kayaking-a good thing because I was NOT …

10 Flower Gardens You Should Visit This Summer
Note: I would visit the Rhododendrons as soon as possible at the Kentville Research Station I scoff at the suggestion of having any kind of a green thumb-really I do. But for some strange reason, I feel compelled over the last several years to dig, plant and even-horrors! weed a bit of a flower garden. Why is this so shocking, you ask? I grew up on a farm.Need I really say anymore? But I will say more. My mother worked outside the home. My father was crippled with extreme arthritis .We gardened to sell produce and survive-long before farmer’s markets and U Picks were a staple in Nova Scotia. You…

Part 3 26 Nova Scotia Day Trips Q-Z
Well, that title lies. I could get z..I tried. I went through phone books, maps, online resources and atlas to find a place that I have visited or could visited that started with Z so I could offer you a choice of Nova Scotia day trips from A to Z.Nope. And in the spirit of transparency-I couldn’t find X either. However, I WILL give you 26 day trips. And I will gather all this info into a little e-book – print it off and use it to plan your summer. Here we go. Q. Queensland Beach. I am beginning to sense a theme-water, water everywhere. This is nice little beach…

Part 2- 26 Nova Scotia Day Trips I to P
Here we go with part 2 of this three part series of Nova Scotia day trips . An alphabet soup of exploration, if you will. Sometimes, it’s hard to pick between several places with the same first letter, and sometimes, it’s hard to dig up one at all (just wait until I get to ‘z’ next week.) I always try to refer to places I’ve actually been so I can give honest information. For now, have a look and make some notes for your upcoming days off this summer. Happy Planning! I.Ingonish Beach We visited this small beach when touring the Cabot Trail last Sept, a sandy beach about…

Stuck in the Fundy Mud
I’m here relaxing and recuperating from my TKR surgery (total knee replacement) and looking forward to the day I get out and about in anything other than a cane shuffling, slow walking manner.I’m wondering what the summer may bring, which,if all goes well may be participating for the second time in the Not Since Moses Mud Run held yearly in Five Islands For some it may be a competitive 5 or 10k run.But for most, myself included, it’s an entertaining, dirty and labor intensive schlepp through stick deep goop. Not just any mud but the thick ankle sucking red mud of the Bay of Fundy. I first participated in 2015,…

Up,Up and Away! Hot Air Balloon Ride with East Coast Balloon Adventures
Since we have been recently talking about Bucket Lists, I thought I’d tell you about fulfilling one of hubby’s bucket list dreams for his 65th birthday, several years ago. Thanks to East Coast Balloon Adventures, we celebrated high above the valley where the scenery was just exquisite. Contacting the company several weeks in advance to purchase our rides, I chose a date a bit prior to hubby’s birthday. They only go out on weekends, so date choices were limited. At last, the evening rolled around (they do sunrise and sunset rides) we met the crew at the Big Stop in New Minas to assess the weather.Although it was a beautiful…

10 Things to Do Day Tripping Along in Colchester County
Alright. You neither know nor care where Colchester County is, right? I’m telling you anyway, because its just a beautiful part of the province. Colchester encompasses Shubenacadie to Truro to Five Islands and some of the most spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy and Cobequid Bay you will ever see. We aren’t strangers to this area-hubby has a camp on Economy Mountain. Sometimes we just jump in the car and make a day of exploring -always something new to find. Like this ‘flowerpot’, almost close enough to touch along Soley Cove Rd.

George’s Island-More than Just Snakes
Celebrating Canada’s 150 birthday means parties and special events this entire year. I mentioned in an earlier post on Nova Scotia’s National Parks & Historic sites that I’m doing my best to get to some of these. During Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Festival such an opportunity presented itself. George’s Island was opened for tours, a concert and a Taste of Nova Scotia event were held there. What could I do-I bought tickets to the tunnel tours and hopped on the ferry.
