A Walk to Shingle Mill Falls
Shingle Mill Falls Updated April 26/2026 As early spring days go, it was a quite enjoyable one- first a walk to Shingle Mill waterfall, topped off with a ice cream from Jonny’s CookHouse in Berwick on the way home. Not much has changed since the last time we were here except of course the horrible wildfire that took place in 2025, during the drought. A lot of the area was scorched as we drove towards the waterfall and I silently thanked the men and women who risked their lives fighting those fires. A Bit of History Shingle Mill Falls was named after the lumber operations that operated in the…

Morse’s (Moore’s) Brook Falls
More Kings County explorations. This time it’s Morse Brook Falls in New Minas. This is a spot I’ve wanted to find since an acquaintance mentioned it to me…. This is a lovely set of three falls with a spectacular 50 ft one in the middle, and we had the most fun getting there. The far side of the brook is a high rock wall. The trail is about 2 km out and back. Any of the pools beneath the falls are really too shallow to swim. Some accounts I’ve read say it’s a good hike for kids…but I wouldn’t be bringing little ones. Now, the path up the brook can…

Givens Brook Falls
I thought there was not many places I hadn’t discovered on all my years living in and exploring Kings County. However,I keep finding new little gems, like Shingle Mill Falls This time we discovered Givens Brook Falls. Just south of Harbourville, this waterfall is apparently one of three along Givens Brook. We didn’t look for the others – we saw no trail that leads further down the brook. Directions Take Exit 15 (Berwick ) from Highway 101.At the top of the off ramp, turn right towards Harbourville. Drive about 9.5 km, and turn left on Barley Street. Drive approximately .5 km and pull off on the near side of the …

Hike to Johnson River Falls
Johnson River Falls is an easy little hike not far from Waverly. It’s just a tad over 4.5 km round trip. The first part of it is along a dirt road. To get there, take exit 5 off the 102 highway. then turn right and go around the rotary. Take the 3rd exit (towards highway 118 ) Just up over the hill you will find Perrin Drive on the left. Drive to the very end. Lots of parking before the gate. The entrance to the trail should have a red and black trail maker ribbon like this: From there , cross a metal bridge, go up over a couple hills…

Summer Trip to Indian Falls Trail
Eureka! We found it! Last time we attempted to find Indian Falls we failed-ended up on the edge of someone’s woods. Rule #1 Just goes to show you can’t always trust Google directions. Seems like we had the same problem when we first tried to find Crystal Falls It’s actually not that hard. From Hwy 101 take Exit 13 to Route 12, head to New Ross. Turn right onto the Forties Road at New Ross and then turn left at Franey’s Corner (about 17 km) toward Parkdale and Maplewood. Indian Fall’s Park is about 18 km from Franey Corner, just a bit past LaHave River Campground. If you are coming from…

Hiking the Crystal Falls Trail
I first heard about the Crystal Falls trail when perusing fellow blogger Laura Churchill Duke’s write up on Valley Family Fun, so on a day off hubby and I decided to give it a go. Laura had already gotten good directions from the Kingston Visitor Centre-we used those. I have included them below. Autumn is my favorite time of year and I love it especially for getting outdoors and exploring. Directions to the Crystal Falls Trail Take Exit 17 to hwy 1 and continue west into Kingston, then turn left at the lights to Greenwood. Turn left at the lights in Greenwood ( across from Canadian Tire) and then right…

Delaps Cove Wilderness Trails-The Bohaker Trail
It”s been years since I’ve done the Bohaker Trail in Delaps Cove in Annapolis County . I remembered it was a fairly short hike and that there was a point along the trail where one could see the Bay of Fundy and a waterfall at the same time. The trail was indeed short-just over 2 km, and that includes a careful decent to the bottom of the falls. Once again, a perfect day. No bugs. No rain. No blistering heat. The rainfall the day before left some wet and mucky sections, but nothing we couldn’t get past.
