A Walk to Shingle Mill Falls
Shingle Mill Falls
Updated April 26/2026

As early spring days go, it was a quite enjoyable one- first a walk to Shingle Mill waterfall, topped off with a ice cream from Jonny’s CookHouse in Berwick on the way home.
Not much has changed since the last time we were here except of course the horrible wildfire that took place in 2025, during the drought.
A lot of the area was scorched as we drove towards the waterfall and I silently thanked the men and women who risked their lives fighting those fires.
A Bit of History
Shingle Mill Falls was named after the lumber operations that operated in the area, where the waterfall provided power to the mill (which was likely situated at the top of the falls) producing products such as wooden shingles for side and roofs of buildings. Shingle making was taking place during the 18th and earth 19th centuries.
The road/trail was an old logging road.
Another example would be Mc Master Falls In Greenwood. Stop and take look the next time you’re heading to Crystal Falls
230 Rocknotch Rd, Greenwood, NS B0P 1R0.
Directions
Take Exit 15 off Highway 101
Turn right onto Highway 1, and turn left onto Aylesford Rd
Drive about 11 km and take a right onto a logging road
Keep going until you see a dirt road to your left. You can drive down there, but it’s pretty rocky in spots and the walk to the falls is only about a km . The falls is on your right-if you’ve gone as far as the bridge just backtrack a few steps. There are several marked trails to get to the falls, some are now overgrown.
This trail by the big rock takes you right down-it’s easier. And impossible to miss.

Alltrails has pretty good directions for this waterfall- however, you have to go a smidgen further along the dirt road before you get to turn left.
