A Walk to Shingle Mill Falls

Shingle Mill Falls Updated April 26/2026   As early spring days go,  it was a quite enjoyable one- first a walk to Shingle Mill waterfall, topped off with a ice cream from Jonny’s CookHouse in Berwick on the way home. Not much  has changed since the last time we were here except of course the horrible wildfire that took place in 2025, during the drought. A lot of the area was scorched as we drove towards the waterfall and  I silently thanked the men and women who risked their lives fighting those fires.  A Bit of History Shingle Mill Falls was named after the lumber operations that operated in the…

    Morse’s (Moore’s) Brook Falls

More Kings County explorations. This time it’s Morse Brook Falls in New Minas. This is a spot I’ve wanted to find since an acquaintance mentioned it to me…. This is a lovely set of three falls with a spectacular 50 ft one in the middle, and we had the most fun getting there. The far side of the brook is a high rock wall. The trail is about 2 km out and back. Any of the pools beneath the falls are really too shallow to swim. Some accounts I’ve read say it’s a good hike for kids…but I wouldn’t be bringing little ones. Givens Brook Falls

I thought there was not many places I hadn’t discovered on all my years living in and exploring Kings County. Drive about 9.5 km, and turn left on Barley Street. Drive approximately .5 km and pull off  on the near side of the …

    Economy River Falls

Updated June 3rd. The trail to the falls is now cleared and is not a jungle anymore-thanks to whoever did the bush whacking It’s been years since I have been to Economy Falls-can’t even guess at how long. But being semi retired means one can pick up and go when the mood strikes them-usually. That’s what we did on a recent beautiful spring day -just packed a lunch and headed out for beautiful Colchester County. and the hike to the falls. First though, we had to get to the trail head. The road was a tad rough. Then at the trail head, we had to practically bush wack our way…
